Golem by PD Alleva

I received this book from the author for an honest review.

This book is about evil. Deep, scary, infect-your-dreams evil. While some people warn you not to read something after dark, I can assure you that day or night this will frighten you. A beautiful young socialite, Alena Francon, seems to have the world in her hand. Her family owns a prominent hotel. Their parties are legendary and an invitation is a social triumph. Alena helps her father at the hotel. Unfortunately he is not managing the hotel successfully.

Alena is seeing William Astor. His family is not happy about it. After Alena becomes pregnant, a small wedding is planned. Alena and her bridesmaids are out for a day of fun when a chance encounter will change her life forever. She visits a fortune teller and becomes ill. As she awakens she becomes aware that she has miscarried her child. Her fiance decides there isn’t any reason for a wedding, cancels it, and breaks up with her. The sunny future that was so close has now disappeared. Devastated, she retreats from society and mourns her losses.

Alena will endure heartbreak and find herself part of an evil group practicing satanic worship. What she believes and experiences collide leaving her questioning her sanity. Is she the only victim in this nightmare? Why was she selected? This is a complex and alarming look at the many ways evil wraps it tentacles around you. No one believes Alena, the story is too wild. After understanding the situation, Alena becomes determined to stop evil. She is expected to pass the torch, evil, to another. This is the only way for it to continue existing is by Alena finding her successor.

How can Alena find someone to take her story seriously? Is there any possible way to defeat Golem? I don’t want to give anything away because I want horror fans to read this and enjoy the experience. The characters in this story are well developed and very realistic. The story seems to move slowly in the beginning, picking up the pace as Golem’s activity increases. The evolution of the horror in the story is reminiscent of “The Shining”, as the pace quickens the horror grows.

Horror fans will find themselves thoroughly captivated by the book.

My Rating: 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Additional thoughts: I read lots of horror stories. For me, the ones I enjoy the most have that “it really could happen” feeling. This author has included elements that seem utterly believable. It’s creepy too, horrible things happen to perfectly normal people, don’t they? PD Alleva knows how to keep the suspense going. Future books from this author should be very interesting.

I have a new page on my blog featuring interviews with authors. I will share their biography, current book and ask a few questions. Check it out! Happy New Year to all, we deserve a good year in 2022.
