This is the first book in an origin series for Wren Field, a character from P.D. Alleva’s The Sleepy Hollow Incident: A Gothic Tale. You will want to read this book; it’s up to you whether you read it before or after reading Ezra’s Secret.

Ezra lives with her mother and father and attends a Catholic girls’ school. In 1955, the nuns are strict, and Ezra is prone to daydreams, making her a target for punishment. Recently, Ezra’s attention is drifting more than ever. It’s good that she has found a boy to study with. Micheal, attends the local Catholic boys’ school. Ezra enjoys spending time with Michael. He is a good Catholic boy.

Ezra’s teacher, Sister Agnes, talked with the parish priest about Ezra’s inability to focus at school, and they have a recommendation for Ezra’s family. Could this be the answer to Ezra’s daydreams? Instinctively, Ezra recognizes the danger she is in. Can she find a way out of her predicament? Can she count on Michael to lend her support?

There are so many elements in this book that I would like to mention and discuss, but I want you to discover all the glorious creepiness yourself.

First, look at the cover of this book. The creep factor begins before you open the book! Now, if you have ever read a P.D. Alleva book, you feel the anticipation build, knowing you are in for an unimaginable treat. This book is honed to perfection, delivering chills, goosebumps, and mind-blowing horror. The imagination that crafted this tale is amazing and seriously twisted.

Horror is many things, but when it is stealthy and terrifying at the same time, it is at its best. I have never been a fan of the in-your-face variety of horror. I prefer the subtle, tension-building type of horror. This book moves at the perfect pace; plan to start and finish it in one day. No one can sleep until we know how this ends!
