I received this book from the author for an honest review.

Abigail inherits her grandmother’s store, Second Hand Rose. She packs and happily returns to her hometown of Friendship. She is looking forward to the new challenge of running a business. Going home is the perfect life for Abigail and her dog, Jake. The shop has always seemed so dark, to alleviate this, Abigail moves the large cabinet at the front window to the back of the shop. Her grandmother mentioned this is a special piece, but Abigail can’t find the keys to unlock it. Is there something special inside?

Abigail’s simple inheritance suddenly becomes much more as she finds herself thrust into inexplicable events. Death and disappearances begin in this quiet town and Abigail feels obligated to investigate. The town of Friendship is facing something or someone that could end it all. Is Abigail up to the challenge of saving the town?

This story has that creep factor to it. D.E. Fox does a nice job managing the horror reveal. There is gore but not a heavy dose which makes the story a great quick read. I believe this would be an acceptable read for young adults and anyone older. This is more of a novella than a book. It moves quickly and the characters are not deeply defined. D.E. Fox’s debut novel is a surprising, exciting entry into the thriller/horror genre.

My Rating: 🌻🌻🌻🌻/5
