Book #5 of the Talisman Series is all about changes. The Alliance knows they need to change their plan to fight the Tyrant King by building relationships with other magical groups. This will become as important as finding more talismans. The members of the team continue developing their powers. Practicing their battle techniques increases ability, technique, and learning. A new character named Mander revealed himself during their adventures. He is an unhappy, sarcastic salamander-like magical creature. How will he begin to help the team?

The Alliance continues to grow and learn as they move ever closer to the day they will fight to save Earth. They realize that the strength of the Alliance grows by working together. Rome and Krysta are working together and developing a romance. Wisely, they know that there is plenty of time to get to know each other after the battle. Each member of the team is maturing and seems to be more settled into their roles. They understand that seeking advice and opinions from others does not weaken them. This is a terrific message/reminder for the readers. Yes, there are still dangers spilling from the portals.

There are a large number of characters accumulating in this story. At times it can be difficult to remember what skills or evil each character has. As the final battle is closer than ever, will the Alliance be ready to defeat the Tyrant King? Only time, and the next book, will tell.

Brett Salter continues his fun and wonderfully entertaining series. Please read each of the previous books to understand the characters and their goals. The author’s subtle sense of humor enhances this series. you can tell the author is a fun person. Each book in the series builds upon the one before and the amazing story grows stronger and more fascinating. This is a series that should be read with your middle schooler. There are so many lessons and opportunities for great discussions.
