Lori and Marc were in an awful accident while returning home to Sleepy Hollow. Marc awakens in the hospital to learn that Lori’s mother is at Lori’s bedside and has taken charge of her care. Lori is unconscious, and her mother has barred Marc from seeing her. Marc is devastated. Lori’s mother makes it clear that she will be taking Lori back to her childhood home, and further contact by Marc is unwelcome. Marc tries to focus on his healing but is unable to walk away from Lori. Since awakening, Marc has been hearing a voice. This voice tells Marc that Lori will die unless Marc makes a bargain with it. Marc would do anything for Lori…

Concurrently, a local man commits a horrific murder that leaves police stunned. What would drive a mild-mannered family to kill? At the crime scene, the detective finds a strange emblem and words. With more questions than answers, the detective wonders whether he will ever understand what is happening in his town. The voice Marc hears is also heard by others with terrifying results. Evil is in Sleepy Hollow, and it has big plans.

Part II begins rapidly and doesn’t slow down. Poor Marc is suffering physically and mentally. Can he turn his back on the only person to understand him? He is adrift, much like Sleepy Hollow. Crime happens, but the grisly murder that has occurred is a harbinger of things to come. Something sinister is happening in Sleepy Hollow. Can it be identified and stopped, or is Sleepy Hollow doomed?

This part of the series sets the stage for a showdown between good and evil, and while that seems simplistic, PD Alleva has not written a simplistic story. There are surprises around every turn. At this point in the story, the list of questions is long. I can’t wait to have the questions answered, but we will need to wait – until Part III!

As the second part of this series, the build-up to the battle of good and evil continues. This book moves quickly, has loads of action, and brings us closer to the revelation of evil in Sleepy Hollow. The tension continues to build and the creep factor continues to climb!
