The Midnight Knock by John Fram

I received this book from the publisher, SS Atria.
Wow! Ethan, Hunter, Thomas, Tabitha, Kyla, Fernanda, Penelope, Ryan, and Jack Allen are trapped in a cosmic do-over. Similar to the movie Groundhog Day, they repeat the same day over and over, never remembering what happens at the end of the night. What would be the following morning for us is a repetition of the day again for these characters. This cycle could continue ad infinitum, but something changes. The cycle develops a crack as several participants remember moments from prior cycles. If they work together, could the cycle be interrupted or ended? Each person must change their reactions to the events of the evening to end the repetition.
This bewildering story presents like an episode of the Twilight Zone. As cracks develop in the cycle, both literally and physically, participants’ roles change. It begs the question as to whether the author is having them mature or whether the characters are simply taking the road less travelled. The author reveals each person’s backstory as readers experience a second time through the cycle. Each revelation provides additional details relevant to completing the breakdown of the cycle. The cyclic storytelling is unique and could aggravate the less patient readers. As a reader experiencing this time twist, I felt frustrated initially when I realized I would be experiencing this cycle again, but as the characters began remembering their ongoing cycle, the pace and my interest in this story escalated. The ending is a spectacular as the initial premise of this book, and questions will have answers. This is a book that will intrigue sci-fi fans, mystery fans, and people who enjoy puzzles.
I recommend this book and would like to thank SS Atria, John Fram, and NetGalley for the advanced copy.
