The Girl Made of Clay Review

I received this book directly from the author.

This is a children’s chapter book with nine chapters.

David Peterson wants to be just like his dad when he grows up. His father is a scientist. David loves spending time with him and when he finds out that his father is leaving on a trip to South Africa, he wants to go along with him. His father doesn’t want him to miss school and makes arrangements for David to remain at home.

David manages to sneak onto the flight with his father. Imagine his surprise seeing David when he thought he was at home! David’s father relents and David does get to see Africa. While his father is examining some fossils, David finds a prehistoric egg.

When the egg cracks open, David sees a baby dinosaur he names Amigo. David has fun playing with and teaching Amigo. It is time for David and his father to return home. Who will take care of Amigo? He’s only a baby. David tries to find a home for Amigo but there aren’t any animals interested in the baby dino. And then David’s father has a solution – and more family for Amigo.

Katy Ant has written a charming and warm book about the loving, respectful relationship between a boy and his father. The inclusion of dinosaurs and fossils will capture the imagination of young readers. The illustrations are beautiful, colorful, and enhance this wonderful story. I am amazed at how much information and emotion she is able to convey in only nine chapters! I look forward to seeing where the adventures with Amigo go next. This looks to be a wonderful series for young readers. I wholeheartedly recommend it!

My Rating: 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

Additional Thoughts: This is such a fun story! I was amazed at how quickly it moved but did not skimp on details. I’ve read ” Awesome Friendship Adventures” by Katy Ant. She is a wonderful storyteller and her books are beautifully illustrated and imaginative.
