Two brothers, Seth and Jason, grow up in horrible circumstances. Their mother, Amanda, is an addict who uses her body to pay for her addiction. The brothers live in a rundown rental house with barely any food and no adult supervision or guidance. Jason leaves home, Seth has to care for their mother until he too decides to move on with life. On his own and reconnecting with his brother, Seth chooses to learn about the group to which his brother belongs. The Kinship is run by the high priest, Cain who receives instruction from the spirits.

Cain claims the spirits have made a prophecy that two brothers will join forces and have vast power. It is Cain’s role to join these two brothers. Once their blood is joined, Seth and Jason are instructed to attack a church. Jason seems ready to take on the challenge while Seth is stunned by the command. Seth does not understand why they are commanded to harm the church and its members. Neither brother claims to be Christian, why is this such a problem for Seth?

Seth has a crisis of consciousness and cannot bring himself to fulfill the spirits’ request. He realizes that these spirits are not benevolent. He is driven to attend the Zion’s Hill church and learn about Jesus. Sadly, Seth fails to disclose his past to the church and finds himself loving Jesus but fearing the discovery of his past. After a year, Jason decides he wants the power promised by the spirits and will make his brother join the Kinship with him and fulfill the prophecy. Jason and Seth are on opposite sides battling for souls. Good and evil will clash as Zion’s Hill church battles the Kinship. Is Jesus stronger than Satan? Read the story to learn the outcome.

Shawn David Brink’s newest book is a contemporary battle between good and evil. Seth is a good man, he cares about his mother, wife, and new-found church. However, he lives in fear that his past will be discovered. How will the church and his wife respond? His other fear is the return of his brother. Seth would rather avoid Jason than confront him about his membership with the Kinship. Jason was the perfect person to want membership in such a group. He had no family to speak of and when he was offered membership, it fulfilled a need deep in his heart. Neither brother had any strong commitments to an organized religion. When Seth decides to become Christian, he is a blank slate. Jason is also a blank slate, eager for guidance and ready to fall into command of the devil. A battle seems inevitable since Jason is so determined to bring Seth back. The author does an excellent job describing the battle, making it easy for the reader to imagine the circumstances. This is not THE battle between Jesus and Satan, it is one of the multitude of battles waged each day. Well written, this story will grab your attention, and keep it. Afterward, the epilogue wraps up the story. What happens to each of the characters? Be sure not to miss this!
