Blind Tiger by Sandra Brown

Blind Tiger by [Sandra Brown]

I received this book from the publisher, Grand Central Publishing.

This book is available on March 29, 2022. Sandra Brown’s Blind Tiger is a lively and fascinating look at the moonshine industry in Texas. In the early 1920s, prohibition has stopped all legal manufacture and distribution of alcohol. Enterprising people know that this law is merely an inconvenience.

Thatcher Hutton has seen the horrors of the Great War. He has been released from military service, and he is traveling back to the job that is waiting for him. After a friendly game of poker, he realizes his fellow travelers are no longer feeling friendly. He jumps off the train, heading to the nearest town. Stopping at a ramshackle cabin to get a drink and ask for directions, he encounters the lovely Laurel Plummer. Laurel believes this is a one-time occurrence while Thatcher hopes that their paths will cross again.

A woman from town disappears mysteriously. As a newcomer to town, Thatcher becomes the prime suspect. Where could this lady be? As he observes the investigation of the missing woman, he realizes that he needs to assist in the search for this woman or the local hotheads could hang him without a trial. His help with the investigation gives him the opportunity to see Laurel again. As the search for the local woman continues, Thatcher discovers that this town has a large role in moonshine manufacturing and distribution. Does moonshine have anything to do with the missing woman?

Moonshine, rivalry, and romance are artfully combined into a quick-moving story of two people stuck in troubled times while looking for a better future. Thatcher and Laurel are characters that deal with difficult life events and use their inner strength to overcome problems and find their path. I enjoyed the touching relationship Laurel has with her father-in-law. They are not demonstrative but worry about each other -illustrating the tender side of Laurel’s personality. The story explores the reasons many people worked as moonshiners. The need for money and the lucrative nature of moonshining gave people hope during tough times. Sandra Brown’s well-researched story engages and surprises in a bloody moonshine war.

My Rating: 🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻/5

Additional Thoughts: I had fun learning about the many elements of moonshining. The characters were great, Sandra Brown knows how to create memorable ones. I’m always curious as to how authors come up with ideas for books. I would love to learn how she came up with this one. I will have to see if she explains it in an interview.

Blind Tiger has a direct correlation to moonshining, you just have to read the book to find out why!
