Length: 371 pages

After an ugly divorce, Leela is ready to start over. She wants to open a bed and breakfast inn and discovers a property she can envision renovating. She knows that remodeling will need to be done but doesn’t know anyone to help. After some internal debate, Leela decides to call a long-time ex, Nathan. Leela knows that Nathan will be honest about the property and she trusts him. When she sees him, some of those old feelings begin to stir.

Nathan has also moved on. He is married and has a family. He also owns his own company. Nathan is happy to see Leela. The short time he spends with Leela has him examining his marriage. Nathan isn’t happily married and his wife cheats on him. He realizes that his marriage is at the breaking point. He moves out and divorce proceedings begin. He knows that he wants to be with Leela to see if they can have a relationship. Once Nathan begins spending time with Leela, his jealous wife tries to destroy any chance for happiness that he has. Will Nathan return to his wife or realize his chance for happiness without her?

Can a lost flame be rekindled? Do people really get second chances? Leela and Nathan are flawed. Their initial relationship began uniquely and ended in a mess. Can this new opportunity for romance overcome the baggage of the past? Throughout the book, the author tackles topics that some people consider triggers: divorce, cheating, addiction, and abuse – physical, and emotional. Sensitive readers should avoid this book if any of these are a trigger.

Dani Phoenix captures the emotions and messiness of life. Her characters are well constructed and evoke strong emotions (especially the ex-wife!) Readers will be wrapped up in this interesting and inventive story. It is not a straightforward book so be prepared for side steps occasionally. I enjoyed the book and appreciated the gritty realism that Phoenix chose. I am grateful to Novel Cause Publicity and Dani Phoenix for the opportunity to review this book.
