I received this book from the author for an honest review. I have previously reviewed the author’s book “Finding Serenissima”.

Annie lived in Australia when WWII began. She and her two brothers lived on the family farm with their father. Annie never felt appreciated by her father, and their relationship was always strained. After talking with her friends, they decided to enlist to help the Australian war effort. She began her nursing career with the Australian Army Nursing Service, stationed in Singapore. Wartime nursing was challenging, but Annie enjoyed helping the soldiers. During her nursing service, she met and fell in love with a doctor. She lost him to illness as the war was ending. After the war, Annie moved to London. Unsure of whether she wanted to continue nursing, she took a job as a nanny for a diplomatic family. Annie stayed with them when they were assigned to Berlin. Post-war life in Berlin was tense. It was difficult for families to survive on the limited food available. Russia decided to exert power and stop food drops to Berlin. Many people fled, but some people had to stay. The family employing Annie stayed. After surviving the blockade, the family left Berlin and returned to London. Annie decided to return to nursing. A chance encounter at the hospital led her to meet a local chaplain. Meeting him changed her life and helped her heal from her earlier heartbreak. Love will take her life in a new direction.

“Annie’s Day” showcases love, loss, pain, healing, and the inner strength needed to navigate life. Annie is a strong woman who uses determination to face challenges. Annie is a character that you would love to meet. Annie’s story provides an insightful look at life from the Australian perspective. Apple Gidley has created characters that are all interesting and dynamic. Each character enhances the story. “Annie’s Day” shows us that hope for the future can survive no matter how tough the challenges. Fans of historical fiction will enjoy this wonderful book.

Thank you, Apple Gidley, for the advanced reader copy. Reading this book was truly delightful.
